About Us

Friends of Yemaya is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to enhance and enrich the self esteem and enjoyment of life for at risk children and children in foster care through community donors. 

Did you know that over 400,000 children across America are in foster care for various reasons and for various spans of time?  Of these 400,000 children 11,000 live in Georgia.  Our vision is to reach these children and make them feel special on their birthday, back to school and Christmas.  As well as, giving them the opportunity to engage and be envolved in recreational and community activities.  We will also donate bags to each child we touch so when they have to transition they will have thier own personalized bag to do so.

As children many of us recall preparing for the first day of school with our brand new book bags filled with supplies.  We remember the excitement of writing our Christmas wish list and hoping we get everything on the list, because we were good all year long.  Let's not forget the best day of all our birthdays!  They were such big deals as we anticipated what type of gifts we were going to receive.  Some of us still do.  Were you on a sports team, band member or attended varioius community programs such as debutante balls, college tours, ect.?  Unfortunately, many at risk and foster children do not get to have these experiences.  They are transitioning from house to house with trashbags, and at times these moments are overlooked.  As Friends of Yemaya we strive to make sure these moments are not lost for these children.  

We have collaborated with several foster care agencies around the metro area to identify these children.  The ages we focus on are children 4-18 years of age.  We are looking for donors such as yourself, to donate book bags filled with school supplies, Christmas gifts, birthday presents, bags and sponsor community activies.  The bags donated will be embroidered with the child's name so they can transition with a bag that is persoanlized just for them.
